Hi-Dez Rabbitry

Our
Story
As with most people that start journeys to be as sustainable as they can for themselves with rabbits, we started off with meat production goals (and some pelt production for crafts and such). As we quickly learned, rabbits for a family with young children, usually get infiltrated with the cuteness as well as for function.
We started with a trio of New Zealand's (one had rex fur so she was more of a cross), this trio started our rabbit habit. I loved the rex fur so much that I started searching for more of them, little did I know that this would be the start of a great journey. This search for more rex showed me that there were not breeders in the state of Louisiana with animals showing, the breeders here bred for meat and pelt purposes only.
I slowly got out of the New Zealand's

and went to only rex by getting rabbits

that came from out of state. I had one

breeder in Texas that was my go to
for new stock and she and I learned

about the ARBA standard together as

the years went on and why it was so

important to breed to it. I eventually
bought most of her stock when she

switched to a new breed so that I may
have better animals to use to breed
better quality.
I saw that a local rabbit show was
being held in April 2022 which I went
to see what it was all about. I met
some wonderful people that day that
are still very dear to me, and I told
myself that I would bring some to the
Memorial Day show the next month.
My first show was a wake up call to what I thought about my own stock. I showed up with 2 rabbits that baffled judges and someone on the standards committee. All of my local rex showers remember that well and always remind me of that lol. I was given the advice to go home, get rid of half of my barn, and pretty much start over. That is exactly what I did. I worked very hard after that to learn all that I could about the breed and the breeders to watch. I kept showing and learning more with every judge that I observed. As my love for showing and my knowledge expanded, I was meeting wonderful people that also wanted to go further with the breed and together we worked to create the Southern Rex Breeders Association, a regional club for all of our friends in surrounding states.
I learned through showing how important breeding to the standard really is not only for showing, but also for the production of meat. The more correct a rabbit is, the better the carcass will be.
Since showing we have expanded to show Holland lops, angoras, American Fuzzy Lops, and we have shown Havanas.
This has taught my kids the value of hard work and responsibility for their animals. They have also met friends that they may have never had the chance to meet otherwise.
Our journey so far has been amazing, we have amazing friends and have a second family. I love you all !!!
