The Little Moments

On the cooler mornings like this morning something makes me sit and just watch the animals as they lay, chew cud, and just be at peace before the hot day get started. There is just something serene and entrancing about the moments that are just quiet and it seems that time just moves a bit slower in these little moments. The sheep just lay in the sun and enjoy their time together in their family herd. The rabbits run, hop and get the zoomies in their cages with the excitement of hay and the cooler weather. The goats roam and head but each other to play and push each other around. The momma hen gathers her chicks to the spilled feed of the many animals that call the barn home.

These are the moments that make my heart fill with peace and happiness and remind me that these little moments are why I go through all of the blood, sweat, swearing, and tears. Some people are just called to this life that takes a toll on our bodies and out hearts. You are born for this life, or not. This lifestyle is not just something that a person can just pick up like fleeting fancy, this is a lifelong passion that will make you question your dedication to it on many different occasions and push you to the brink of throwing in the towel more than once. BUT, in these brief little moments, something will always bring you back to the basis of why you are called to this life and the feeling of never quitting will return with a new and invigorating life that will get you dreaming of what is next.

With the never ending to do lists, balancing farm and family, I hope that one day my kids will look back and think of their own little moments that are made here and enjoy the simplicity and peace of the small things in life. Slow down and enjoy watching the mornings.
